Hugo 2019 is a magnificent red wine made from selected grapes grown in vineyards between 70 and 100 years old in Capçanes (D.O. Montsant). A 12-month aging process in French oak barrels shaped a juicy wine with an elegant structure, balanced acidity, smooth and concentrated tannins, and a persistent and pleasant finish.
Hugo 2019 is crafted as a tribute to the old cariñena vineyards of the winery, which are 70-100 years old and rooted in clay-limestone soils in the municipality of Capçanes, located in the southern part of the Priorat region. Aged for 12 months in oak barrels, it spends an additional two years in the bottle before being released. The result is a juicy red wine with aromas of red fruit and spicy notes, featuring an elegant structure, good acidity, and concentrated yet smooth tannins.
Founded in 2003, the winery Portal del Montsant is located in the former cooperative of Marcà, in facilities where wine has been produced since the beginning of the last century. The winery stands out for its work with the historical varieties of Montsant, garnacha and cariñena, from which it crafts fragrant, complex, and highly refined wines. A great example of the winery’s winemaking expertise is this Hugo 2019, brought to you by the Club. Pair it with fatty meats like lamb.
Hugo is a wine with a vibrant purple color, blue rim, and well-formed tears. On the nose, it stands out with aromas of red fruits and spices. Elegant structure and harmonious acidity. Juicy, with soft and concentrated tannins. Persistent and pleasant finish.
The aim of Portal del Montsant is to showcase, through its wines, the character, expression, and the purest essence of the cariñenas and garnachas typical of the region. These grapes are sourced from small plots with controlled production and are vinified and worked separately to extract the maximum potential from each of them.
The wines from this winery hark back to the origins of viticulture in the region and take their name from Saint Bruno of Cologne, founder of the monastic order of the Carthusian monks of Escaladei and responsible for the beginning of viticulture in the area.
