General Information

Hito 2024 is the wine that opens the door to the universe of one of the most innovative wineries in Ribera del Duero. Founded in Castrillo de Duero, in the heart of the 'golden mile' of the appellation, this estate has successfully combined cutting-edge technology with impeccable vineyard management. Since its inception, it has focused on selected clones of tempranillo, grafted onto its younger plots, to create wines that respect their origin but speak the language of the present. The 2024 vintage has been particularly favorable: a wet winter, a warm summer, and occasional rainfall during harvest have allowed for balanced, fresh, and expressive grapes.

The name Hito refers to a stone post, sometimes carved, that marks direction or distance on roads or delimits land. Hito 2024 is a wine that does not seek to impress with power but to conquer with elegance. It has been crafted with controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by a 30-day malolactic fermentation and 8 months of aging in French oak barrels. The result is a wine with a fine profile, intense aromas of red fruits, subtle wooden notes, and a light structure that makes it highly enjoyable. Its balance and freshness make it the perfect companion for any occasion, from a casual aperitif to a special dinner.

When it comes to pairing, it will be the ideal companion for dishes such as lentil stew with chorizo, lamb chops, or Iberian cured meats.

Tasting notes

In appearance, it shows a cherry red color with a very good layer.

On the nose, it reveals finesse and intensity, very expressive, highlighting aromas of red fruit (raspberry), floral notes (violet), giving way to spicy touches and fine woods.

On the palate, it is fruity, flavorful, fresh, and with excellent balance; its passage is aromatic, and its noble tannins are perfectly integrated. Long and persistent finish.

Winemaker

Cepa 21 is the winery of José Moro, the third generation of a renowned lineage of winemakers from Ribera del Duero. It is located in a valley in Castrillo de Duero (Valladolid) and features modern, minimalist-style facilities on a small hill that offers wonderful views. Focused on wine tourism, the winery also has its own restaurant. Cepa 21 produces wines with a very good image and a contemporary appeal: fruity and fresh; a true demonstration of the potential of the tinto fino (tempranillo) grape. To achieve this, it relies on 50 hectares of its own vineyards, most of which are distributed around the winery at an altitude between 780 and 850 meters.

Aware that high-quality raw materials are an essential condition for achieving great wines, the winery conducts an exhaustive selection of plots and soil monitoring prior to planting, in addition to meticulous viticulture practices (green pruning, cluster thinning...). Harvesting is done by parcels, and the grape clusters go through a selection table.

The winery also stands out for its commitment to technology: all the vineyards are monitored with field sensors, Internet of Things, satellites… The most innovative technology is used to record all parameters (humidity, wind, or plant stress).
