Distinguished by its perfect balance between floral and citrus notes, Granza Verdejo Ecológico 2023 is a white wine produced in Rueda by the winery owned by Carlos Moro Bodegas Familiares Matarromera.
The rise of Matarromera to the elite of national wineries has been meteoric. Since its first harvest, the magnificent 1995, which received press recognition thanks to one of its reds proclaimed as the best wine in the world; the winery has gained momentum due to the invaluable work of its creator and soul, Carlos Moro.
Since its inception, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera has been committed to the land and sustainability, materializing this through its eco-efficient facilities, the use of clean and renewable energies, research through projects that improve related winemaking activities, and producing healthier, more natural, and environmentally friendly products for the consumer.
With these foundations, Granza Verdejo Ecológico 2023 was born, a white wine with a vegan seal and gluten-free. A young wine from the ecological plots of Valdestillas, which the firm dominates in the D.O. Rueda. It is a light wine that evokes spring sensations. Considered one of the most innovative products of the year in the Eco & Organic Awards competition, in the category of wines, beers, and spirits.
In appearance, Granza Verdejo shows a pale yellow color with very fine and persistent bubbles. On the nose, fruity aromas (Granny Smith apple) and floral notes like lemon verbena stand out, with sweet hints of fresh almond. Balanced, fresh, creamy, and with a long-lasting finish on the palate.
Following the winemaking tradition of his Castilian ancestors, Carlos Moro founded the Matarromera winery in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) in 1988 with a clear objective: to create quality wines using the most advanced technology while respecting traditional winemaking methods.
The main challenge undertaken by Carlos Moro was his commitment to new barrels for aging his wines, an initiative that was novel at the time in Ribera del Duero. Another key to Matarromera's success lies in its excellent vineyards, located in a legendary area of the D.O. Ribera del Duero: Valbuena de Duero.
In recent years, the Granza label has been chosen by Bodegas Familiares Matarromera to honor traditional farming practices. It refers to the residues (grain, long straw, husks, etc.) left from wheat and other seeds like barley when winnowed and sifted. This label represents the group's most natural wines, all of which are gluten-free and ideal for vegan consumers.
