Godelia Godello Edición Especial 2024 is one of the rare white wines from Bierzo that undergoes aging on lees. It is primarily made with godello, the trendy white grape native to the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The grapes come from vineyards between 30 and 60 years old, cultivated on quartzite and slate soils at altitudes ranging from 500 to 700 meters.
This white wine is complemented by 20% doña blanca, an indigenous variety that brings freshness and floral nuances. Its five-month aging on fine lees gives it a silky texture and aromatic complexity.
The D.O. Bierzo is experiencing an excellent moment, and Godelia (2009) is one of the wineries driving this rise. This project is based on high-quality old vineyards and a dedicated team that includes the renowned professor José Ramón Lissarrague as viticultural advisor and winemaker Josep Serra. Owned by the García Rodríguez family, descendants of Galician farmers, the winery is built in the style of traditional Bierzo manor houses, blending into its surroundings, and is one of the most prominent wine tourism centers in the León province.
Located in one of the best areas of the D.O. Bierzo, in the hamlet of Pieros in the municipality of Cacabelos, along the Camino de Santiago, the winery is equipped with the latest winemaking technology and boasts an impressive barrel cellar with vats of different capacities. Its vineyard spans 35 hectares across several plots, with some vines over eighty years old, yielding very low production.
The white wine Godelia Godello Edición Especial 2024 (D.O. Bierzo) is perfect for pairing with dishes like oven-baked snapper with vegetables or grilled white prawns.
Bright straw color.
It presents an intense and fruity nose, where stone fruits and citrus stand out, as well as white flowers. A mineral background is appreciated, along with slight hints of fennel and freshly cut grass.
Very creamy, fruity, and elegant on the palate, with mineral and slightly saline notes that characterize it, and a fresh and persistent finish provided by its acidity.
Bodegas Godelia (2009) has quickly established itself as one of the new benchmarks for wines from Bierzo. Owned by the García Rodríguez family, descendants of Galician farmers, the winery is located in one of the best areas of the D.O. Bierzo, in the village of Pieros in the municipality of Cacabelos, along the Camino de Santiago. It is built in the style of the typical large houses of Bierzo, perfectly integrated into the surroundings, and equipped with the latest winemaking technology and a barrel park with vats of different capacities.
Godelia is supported by high-quality old vineyards: it draws from more than 40 hectares of vines spread across various plots, with different altitudes and orientations, on slate soils that impart a distinctive minerality to its wines. It has some mencía vines that are over eighty years old and produce low yields. It also cultivates the white godello grape. Godelia is also one of the main wine tourism destinations in Bierzo.
