Geol 2019 is an exceptional coupage of merlot, cariñena, and cabernet sauvignon from an estate with old vines planted on gravel, rock, and clay soils at over 700 meters above sea level. Under the premise of producing wines in an ecological manner and with biodynamic principles, this unique red by Tomàs Cusiné is characterized by its elegant aromas, powerful palate, and rounded tannins.
The winery Tomàs Cusiné was founded as a personal project in 2003 to produce unique wines that represent the character of the territory, thanks to the knowledge of winemaker Tomàs Cusiné of the D.O. Costers del Segre. Currently, the winery is meticulously working the vineyard, applying precision enology. Tomàs Cusiné has 30 hectares of own vineyards that are worked in an ecological, sustainable manner and under biodynamic principles.
This red from the D.O. Costers del Segre is made by hand harvesting in boxes, with a strict selection of grapes and subsequent cooling. Following a philosophy of low production for maximum expression, it is fermented and macerated in 5000-liter tanks before aging for 14 months in French oak barrels. After resting in the bottle for three years, Geol 2019 is a limited production red ideal for pairing with eggs and ham, roasted vegetables, and rice dishes.
Geol is a cherry red wine with intense plum and blackberry tones, clean and bright.
On the nose, soft cedar wood and eucalyptus, chocolate and licorice with pastry balsamics.
On the palate, the entry is broad and silky with round, powerful, and deep tannins.
This boutique winery is the first independent project of Tomàs Cusiné in the village of El Vilosell. In 2003, after gaining the necessary experience in wineries such as Castell del Remei and Cérvoles, the winemaker decided to embark on his own wine adventure in the region of Les Garrigues.
The purpose of this winery is to craft characterful wines that represent the expression of the territory, leveraging Tomàs Cusiné's knowledge of the D.O. Costers del Segre. In recent years, the winery has been prioritizing vineyard work and precision winemaking.
Currently, it produces wines under the denominations of origin Costers del Segre, Conca de Barberà, and Monsant.
This winery has 30 hectares of vineyards, which are managed organically and sustainably. In addition to its own vineyards, there are another 70 hectares from associated winegrowers in the same area.
As a winemaker, Tomàs Cusiné demonstrates his mastery in wine blending and is recognized as an expert in this field, with over 30 harvests of experience. In short, he is one of the most renowned winemakers on the current scene, with a total production of 1,200,000 bottles, half of which are exported to more than 40 countries worldwide.
