The Vintae group was born with the intention of revolutionizing the wine world. Their Garnachas Project began in 2008 with the goal of rescuing old and abandoned vineyards of this variety in the Ebro Valley. As an example, La Garnacha Olvidada 2022, an excellent single-varietal wine made from old vineyards in the Ribota Valley, in Aragón.
La Garnacha Olvidada 2022 is born from old vines planted in the 1940s, on ferrous clay soil with pebbles in the Ribota Valley (Zaragoza), at an average altitude of 850 meters. The harvest was manual and of great quality, with impeccable health, balance, good concentration, and aromatic richness. Fermentation took place at less than 25ºC in 15,000-kilo concrete tanks, with maceration lasting 17 days. Finally, the wine spent 6 months in new, second, and third-use French oak barrels.
The garnacha grape was, until recently, the most cultivated variety in Spain and was even the dominant grape in Rioja until the 1970s-1980s. However, many winegrowers abandoned it due to its low yield and demanding care.
Proyecto Garnachas is an initiative by the Vintae group, directly linked to Richi Arambarri, the company's CEO, and Raúl Acha, technical director, both natives of Alto Najerilla, a Rioja area with the highest concentration of old vineyards of this variety, for which they openly declare their passion. In fact, their family vineyards were the origin of the project.
Proyecto Garnachas aims to prove that this grape is among the world's finest. It began its journey in 2008, selecting small plots of old garnacha vines across the Ebro Valley, located in Aragón, Catalonia, and Rioja. Currently, it produces a collection of six red wines.
La Garnacha Olvidada 2022 (D.O. Calatayud) pairs perfectly with meat dishes such as grilled beef flank steak or braised oxtail.
