General Information

G2 Garnacha Centenaria 2022 originates from a selection of vines replanted almost a hundred years ago, after the phylloxera plague, in different plots in the Valdehornos area (San Martín de Valdeiglesias, D.O. Vinos de Madrid).

Bodegas Valleyglesias is one of the leading firms in the recovery of our most emblematic native variety to produce elegant, joyful, and pleasant wines, like this red wine that the Club proposes to you.

The low yields of the centennial vines, worked following the principles of biodynamic and organic agriculture, and the weathered granite soils in which they grow, contributed to G2 Garnacha Centenaria 2022 great concentration, good acidity, and a unique mineral expression. In the winery, these qualities were enhanced by careful winemaking, which included macerating the grapes with their skins and final aging in new and used French oak barrels for 9 months.

Tasting notes

G2 Garnacha Centenaria is a bright cherry red color, with slight violet hues, and medium layer.

On the nose, it is very intense and clean. Predominant aromas of red fruits (cherries, strawberries, and blackberries in compote) and violets perfectly blended with notes of its barrel aging (vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, dark chocolate).

The entry on the palate is sweet. With soft and well-polished tannins and a correct acidity that gives it liveliness and freshness. The fruit and spices detected on the nose reappear in the retronasal phase.

The winery

Bodegas Valleyglesias is much more than a winery; it is the project of brothers Fernando and Luis Ocaña, with the active involvement of their father Fernando in the viticultural aspect, combining wine, gastronomy, and music in San Martín de Valdeiglesias (Madrid).

Affiliated with the D.O. Vinos de Madrid in 2002, the same year it launched its first creations on the local market, the winery boasts a great family winemaking tradition and a heritage of 11 hectares of vineyards of garnacha, albillo real, and moscatel de grano menudo. The vines, mostly old and low-yielding, are planted in granitic and sandy soils, at an altitude ranging between 600 and 1,200 meters above sea level, in the Sierra de Gredos. Work in the vineyard, guided by respect for the environment, and a minimally interventionist winemaking process result in unique wines that aim to reflect the essence of the native varieties that define them and their terroir of origin.
