Although the Artevino group is originally from Rioja Alavesa, where it owns the Izadi and Orben wineries, over the years it has expanded into some of the country's other prominent wine regions, such as Ribera del Duero (Finca Villacreces) and Toro (Vetus). These four renowned firms share a common philosophy based on deep respect for the vineyard, the grape variety and the environment. Vetus also produces a white wine under the D.O. Rueda designation.
From the heart of the D.O. Toro, we invite you to discover Bodegas Vetus, the winery established there in 2003 by the Antón family. To make it happen, the family bought an estate in the centre of the geographical area, which now has modern winemaking facilities that became operational in 2008 and 20 hectares of vineyards divided into three plots with vines of different ages and planting patterns.
These Tinta de Toro vines share the same neighbourhood as some of the vineyards used by the top wineries in the D.O, and benefit from precision viticulture that respects the environment and meticulous care of the plants. This is where Flor de Vetus 2021, the red wine we’re offering you, comes from.
Flor de Vetus is a deep cherry-red wine with a violet rim.
Nose of medium-high intensity with prominent notes of ripe red and black fruit. Hints of liquorice, spice and dairy, with subtle background notes of coffee caramel and toast.
Potent and fresh palate, warm and satiny with smooth tannins. Long, fragrant finish.
Bodegas Vetus (2003) is the project of the Antón family (Grupo Artevino) in the D.O. Toro. For its development, they acquired an estate in the heart of the denomination. This estate currently houses modern winery facilities inaugurated in 2008 and 20 hectares of vineyards divided into 3 plots with vines of different ages and planting patterns.
Vetus applies precision and environmentally respectful viticulture, with meticulous care of the vines. The tinta de Toro grape is the star of the vineyard, cultivated in trellis and limited to low yields of around 4,000 kg per hectare in favor of quality. The vines are located on slopes with sandy-loam soils and benefit from a climate with significant temperature fluctuations between night and day during the ripening period, which helps produce wines with greater intensity of color and aromas.
The wines of Vetus aim for greater friendliness and balance than traditional reds from Toro. Additionally, the winery produces a white wine under the umbrella of the D.O. Rueda.
