Enrique Mendoza Estrecho Monastrell 2022 is a red wine conceived by Bodegas Enrique Mendoza as a tribute to the province of Alicante, its land, its sun, and its people. A wine that seeks to reflect all the elegance and finesse of the monastrell variety with which it is made. Of Mediterranean profile and born from the winery's commitment to the selection of terroir and a winemaking philosophy based on zero residue: free from herbicides, systemic products, or insecticides.
The exceptional conditions of the grapes from this harvest come together in Enrique Mendoza Estrecho Monastrell with the viticultural and oenological mastery that Bodegas Enrique Mendoza has been showcasing since its foundation in the late 1980s.
The family-owned winery, a member of the Asociación de Grandes Pagos de España, stands out for its expertise in monastrell. In this case, the emblematic variety of the Levante was carefully selected from the Estrecho de Pipa area in Villena, a unique vineyard with vines over 70 years old, planted in fine sandy soils at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. The uniqueness of this terroir, located in the D.O. Vinos de Alicante, produced a powerful monastrell that was vinified and aged in oak vats and French barrels to create Enrique Mendoza Estrecho Monastrell 2022, a limited-production red wine with herbal, mentholated, and red berry aromas and a complex palate.

Enrique Mendoza Estrecho Monastrell is a wine with an intense cherry color and violet reflections, with a high layer, indicating concentration and youth.
Complex and expressive nose, dominated by ripe black fruits: blackberries, plums, and blueberries, accompanied by wild notes and mountain herbs. Balsamic nuances appear along with an earthy and mineral background that adds character.
On the palate, it is powerful and structured, with abundant well-defined ripe fruit that combines with a delicate spicy touch from the aging. The texture is juicy and balanced, with firm yet ripe tannins. The finish is long and persistent, leaving hints of black fruit, light cocoa, and a subtle mineral note that gives it personality.
The winery
Bodegas Enrique Mendoza is a family-owned winery founded in 1989 and based in the town of Alfaz del Pi, in Alicante. The seed of the winery was "planted" in the late 1970s by Enrique Mendoza, a viticulturist passionate about enology, who decided to continue the tradition of the Marina Baixa region of producing wine for family consumption.
Today, the project has become well-established, and Bodegas Enrique Mendoza boasts 84.5 hectares of vineyards. The winery prides itself on being a pioneer in the region for introducing renowned international varieties such as the white chardonnay and the red cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot, petit verdot, and syrah, while also championing local varieties like monastrell, the queen grape of the D.O. Vinos Alicante, and moscatel.
The winery's philosophy is rooted in respect for the vineyard and the environment, practicing a herbicide- and insecticide-free viticulture with precise care, resulting in wines full of nuances.
