General Information

Talking about Toro Albalá is to speak of the most authentic Andalusian tradition, and Don PX 2021, despite being their most recent creation, undoubtedly encapsulates all its essence.

Bodegas Toro Albalá makes all its wines with Pedro Ximénez grapes. The ones used in this Don PX 2021 come from their carefully tended vineyards of La Noria, an estate located in the Aguilar de la Frontera area. After harvest, the fruits were laid out on mats to be sun-dried. Once they reached this state, they went through a hydraulic press to obtain the precious must, which then remained in stainless steel tanks for a year. Finally, the wine was bottled without prior filtration due to its great density. Enjoy it on its own or paired with starters such as foie gras and blue cheeses, lamb and pork dishes, or desserts like vanilla ice cream with berries.

Founded in 1922, in the heart of the Cordoban countryside, Toro Albalá is a true benchmark of the D.O. Montilla-Moriles. The family winery, currently led by Antonio Sánchez, is one of the few that can boast of having obtained the coveted 100 Parker points for one of its creations, Don PX Convento Selección 1946.

Tasting notes

With a striking amber color with an orange rim.

Nose of intense sweetness and great richness of nuances. Aromas of dried fruit (raisins, figs, dried apricots, and dates) predominate, which are then followed by citrus (lemon juice and orange peel).

The notes of dried fruit return in the mouth, where the wine shows itself to be ample, full of sensations, and balanced and light, despite its alcohol content and sugar content (450 g). Unctuous, long, and persistent finish, leaving an intense taste of honey and raisins and a pleasant citrus touch.

The winery

From the dream of a small farmer, Bodegas Toro Albalá was born in 1922, in the heart of the Cordoba countryside. José María Toro Albalá began the journey of his winery with a clear goal: the production of fortified wines and high-quality liqueurs with the Pedro Ximénez grape as the protagonist.

The fino Eléctrico, popularly known as such when the winery was established on the grounds of an old power station, was one of its main creations in the 1920s. Four decades later, in the 1960s, the winery would begin a new chapter under the leadership of Antonio Sánchez, oenologist and nephew of the founder, which continues to this day. With a more international vision but without abandoning the family tradition, Bodegas Toro Albalá showcases its mastery with authentic oenological treasures such as its amontillados or its unparalleled Don PX. Notably, its Don PX Convento Selección 1946 marked a turning point for this Cordoba winery by becoming the first sweet wine to achieve the mythical 100 Parker points.

The vineyards owned by the winery, part of the D.O.P. Montilla-Moriles, are spread across the albariza soils of Finca La Noria, in the municipality of Aguilar de la Frontera, and the best area of Los Moriles Altos, as well as the sandy soils of Montalbán, where the raisining process takes place.
