General Information

Dominio de La Abadesa Crianza 2022 is a single-varietal Tempranillo from a vintage that produced highly concentrated grapes with excellent health. The grapes were macerated for a long time (more than 18 days) at a controlled temperature of between 21 and 27ºC. The resulting wine was aged for 12 months in oak barrels.

Bodegas Ontañón dates back to the early 1970s, when Gabriel Pérez inherited some vineyards on the outskirts of Quel and decided to make his own wines. Since then, Ontañón has been committed to the vineyards of these unique terroirs, and has expanded to iconic Denominaciones such as Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Navarra. Bodegas Ontañón owns 250 hectares of vineyards in Rioja Oriental.

Dominio de La Abadesa Crianza 2022 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal with grilled lamb.

Tasting notes

Dominio de la Abadesa Crianza is a clean, bright, intensely pigmented wine. It’s cherry-red with brick-red hues in the rim from barrel ageing. An intensely aromatic and potent wine with notes of ripe fruit such as blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries, and dried fruit such as prunes and dates. These fruity notes are perfectly blended with the notes of wood, spices, tobacco, vanilla and leather from barrel ageing. Smooth and silky attack with a pleasant acidic twang and rounded, well-polished tannins. Well-structured and full-bodied, with the same fruit-wood balance on the palate.

The winery

Bodegas Ontañón
The fourth generation of the Pérez Cuevas family continues, day by day, the tradition of viticulture in Rioja Oriental. Gabriel Pérez inherited the vineyards from the lands of his ancestors on the outskirts of the town of Quel, on the high slopes of the Sierra de Yerga. When Gabriel took the reins in the early 70s, he began producing wine from those vineyards instead of selling his grapes as had been done until then. He was determined to create a wine that embodied the region of Quel, where his family had deep roots and where he knew wines of great quality were born. Since then, Ontañón has been committed to the vineyards of these unique terroirs. Over the years, Bodegas Ontañón has expanded its expertise to iconic denominations such as Ribera del Duero, Rueda, and Navarra.
