Deyo Merlot de Autor 2020 is a single-varietal Bordeaux-style Merlot of great quality. It is produced at the Deyo estate, in honor of the ancient castle of the same name, where vineyards over 30 years old are found at an altitude of 525 meters above sea level. A moderate aging of 14 months in new French oak barrels gave it complexity and elegance.

Deyo Merlot de Autor 2020 is a red wine produced by Bodegas Castillo de Monjardín in the municipality of Villamayor de Monjardín within the Denomination of Origin Navarra. Made exclusively from the merlot grape variety grown in the Deyo estate, this signature red wine will delight anyone who tastes it with its roundness and elegance, being very easy to drink and a great companion to all kinds of meals.
The Castillo de Monjardín Winery was founded in 1988 by Víctor del Villar. It is located at the foothills of the Pyrenees in Navarra. This is a privileged area for vine cultivation, greatly influenced by French idiosyncrasy and its tradition of producing wines with chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot varieties. The winery spans 220 hectares of vineyards, with vines aged between 15 and 70 years, situated at an average altitude of 700 meters on sunny slopes refreshed by the “cierzo,” the characteristic wind of the area.
Under the regulations of the D.O. Navarra, the vinification of this signature merlot was carried out traditionally, with malolactic fermentation and aging in new French oak barrels for 14 months, aiming to create a round, structured, and elegant wine. Deyo Merlot de Autor 2020 is an excellent companion to dishes with red meats, game, and stews with spiced sauces.
Deyo Merlot de Autor displays an intense ruby color, with great depth.
On the nose, it is clean, with intense and spicy aromas, roasted notes, and black fruits.
On the palate, it is round, with fine tannins and fruity aromas, structured and elegant.
El Castillo de Monjardín is located in the San Esteban Valley, in the heart of Tierra Estella (Navarra), nestled at the foot of the Pyrenean mountain range, not far from the French border. The proximity to France strongly influences the traditional production of these wines, using grape varieties such as chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot. To this, we must add the production of outstanding garnachas and a pinot noir with a fresh and fruity personality.
The winery, founded in 1988, has a total of 220 hectares of family-owned vineyards, situated at an altitude of 600 meters, with vines aged between 15 and 70 years.
For Bodegas Castillo de Monjardín, the terroir plays a fundamental role, as the land imparts the personality, character, and quality of the wines. For the winery, “the only thing that always remains is the land, everything else is transitory.”
It is worth highlighting the microclimate in which these vineyards are located, influenced by the famous cierzo wind, so characteristic of these latitudes. This uniqueness, along with the extensive experience of Víctor del Villar and his team, is responsible for the production of unique wines, full of aromas, elegant flavors, and a firm structure. The wines are made with grapes from their own vineyards, with controlled fermentations and aging in French and American oak barrels.
The winery's goal is to achieve high-quality wines that can adequately complement Mediterranean cuisine and maintain its status as a benchmark in the national winemaking scene.
