Following the philosophy of the series of ‘Club’ labels, we just had to include one of the most important Denominaciones in the world, the most iconic and famous wine region in Spain. And what better way than to bring you a red from Haro’s station district and, specifically, from one of the most representative Spanish wineries, CVNE.
This was our first Club label in the Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja. Following the success of the previous vintages, we couldn’t miss the chance to present another of its wines, Cune Club Reserva 2020, which represents the tradition, modernity and essence of the wines from the Rioja Alta area.
With Tempranillo as the main component of the blend, this wine also includes the traditional touches of Garnacha (fruity flavours), Graciano (freshness) and Mazuelo (subtlety and floral notes). And it’s been superbly aged in oak barrels in which the dairy and coconut notes from American oak perfectly complement the spicy, smoky and patisserie notes from French oak. A unique and exclusive wine for you to enjoy the essence of Rioja.
Attractive ripe cherry-red with a deep garnet-red rim, vivid and bright.
Complex, highly fragrant nose with prominent spicy notes (vanilla and cinnamon), roasted coffee, hints of fine woods (cedar) and patisserie notes, ending with pleasant touches of fruit, chiefly a mix of black forest fruits and hints of redcurrant.
Flavoursome, balanced and well-structured. Excellent fleshy, moreish and very fruity tannins that are beautifully integrated. An expressive Reserva that’s full on mid-palate with a notable presence of the ripe fruit present in the nose. Long finish with hints of dark-roast and spicy notes (vanilla).
The Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España is one of the great symbols of the Estación de Haro neighborhood, the great capital of Rioja wine. Founded in 1879 by the brothers Raimundo and Eusebio Real de Asúa, CVNE (as it is known worldwide) can proudly claim to have remained at the top throughout its history. Ten years after its creation, the winery inaugurated an impressive barrel hall designed by the studio of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. By 1900, it was already producing nearly 80,000 bottles, an unthinkable feat for the time. The 20th century established CVNE as an institution of Spanish wine.
Over 140 years, it has successfully combined tradition and innovation to create wines that today are the standard-bearers of Rioja reds and have garnered international critical acclaim. Its Imperial Gran Reserva 2004 made history when it was chosen as Wine of the Year 2013 by the prestigious American magazine Wine Spectator, marking the first time a Spanish wine received this recognition.
Since its foundation, CVNE has expanded its heritage and grown with avant-garde projects at different times in its history, such as the creation of Viñedos del Contino or Viña Real.
