General Information

Coto de Gomariz Colleita Seleccionada Finca O Figueiral 2022 is the top white wine from the eponymous winery located in the D.O. Ribeiro. A wine born from the Viña O Figueiral, the first vineyard recovered by Ricardo Carreiro, the founder of the winery, after his return from the Americas in 1978.

For the production of the single-vineyard wine Coto de Gomariz Colleita Seleccionada Finca O Figueiral 2022, Bodegas Coto de Gomariz used a coupage of the native varieties treixadura, godello, albariño, loureira, and lado. The final fermentation took place in new French oak barrels, followed by 10 months of aging on fine lees, during which periodic batonnages were performed, giving the wine greater volume and balance.

Coto de Gomariz has become one of the most important classic-profile wineries in the D.O. Ribeiro. Specializing in high-expression wines made with native varieties, the winery stands out for having some of the best vineyards in the area, cultivated using biodynamic and organic techniques.

Tasting notes

Coto de Gomariz Colleita Seleccionada Finca O Figueiral presents a bright pale yellow color to the eye.

Intense nose characterized by a complex array of fruity aromas (melon, mandarin, peach, fig, and quince) and a delicate floral nuance.

Fresh on entry, on the palate it reveals depth, silkiness, elegance, and vibrancy. Well-balanced acidity and a long-lasting finish.

The winery

Coto de Gomariz is the winery of the Carreiro family. Its name refers to the valley and the village of Gomariz in Ourense, where, since the 10th century and as recorded in the general registry of the Kingdom of Simancas, the oldest wine estate in the Iberian Peninsula is located. The origin of the winery dates back to the 1970s when Ricardo Carreiro Ameijeiras, a native of Barro de Gomariz, returned from South America, where he had emigrated, and decided to resume winemaking. He purchased estates and annexed them to the family heritage, and in 1978 planted O Figueiral, the first mechanized vineyard in the area at that time. The first bottles of Coto de Gomariz came to light in the 1980s.

However, it was not until the year 2000, with the construction of the current winery and the management of his son Ricardo Carreiro Álvarez, that Coto de Gomariz became what it is today: one of the leading wineries of the D.O. Ribeiro.

Today, the winery owns 32 hectares of vineyards cultivated throughout the Alvia valley. Under the technical direction of the winemaker Xose Lois Sebio and following a mix of traditional, biodynamic, and ecological techniques, they produce high-expression wines from native grape varieties such as treixadura, godello, loureira, sousón, and mencía.
