Albariño, a variety with expressive aromas, is the main ingredient of Condes de Albarei Edición Limitada 2023, a white designed by the masterful hand of reputed winemaker José Hidalgo. Created from selected grapes from the Salnés Valley, it embodies all the freshness, finesse and minerality of Albariño.
The Albariño grapes that went into making this wine come from the Salnés Valley subzone, regarded as the cradle of the D.O. Rías Baixas. Here Condes de Albarei’s trained vines, more than 25 years old, grow in shallow sandy, granitic soil. The bunches are sorted twice: at the vineyard, where they are harvested by hand in small 20-kg crates, and on entering the winery. Only the free-run must – that of highest quality – was used to make this white that underwent fermentation at a low temperature (14-16ºC) and partial malolactic fermentation.
Adegas Condes de Albarei was founded in Cambados in 1988 by a group of grape growers who decided to team up. Only three years later, in 1991, Condes de Albarei designed the first Spanish white to win a gold medal at the Challenge International du Vin in Bordeaux – a landmark achievement. Adegas Condes de Albarei also owns one of the largest vineyards in the D.O. Rías Baixas: 300 hectares, no less – unusual in a region where smallholdings are predominant. And the quality of its wines is assured by the mastery of winemaker José Hidalgo.
Condes de Albarei Edición Limitada 2023 (D.O. Rías Baixas) is ideal with seabream baked in a salt crust. It also goes beautifully with Mexican dishes such as chicken enchiladas.
A clean, brilliant, straw-yellow wine with greenish glints. Varietal aromas with dominant notes of stone fruits (peaches) and tropical fruits (mango, pineapple), with the presence of white flowers (orange blossom). Fresh, balanced and long mid-palate in which the varietal flavours carry through, with delicate minerally notes and hints of citrus fruits.
Adega Condes de Albarei is one of the largest wineries with the most estate-owned vineyards in the D.O. Rías Baixas. Founded in 1988 in Cambados, the capital of the Salnés Valley, it is the result of the union of a group of winegrowers from this region, considered the birthplace of the D.O. Rías Baixas and its native and predominant variety, albariño.
The gold medal won by Condes de Albarei in 1991 at the Challenge International du Vin in Bordeaux (the first ever achieved by a Spanish white wine) marked the winery's international breakthrough, bringing its albariños to different countries such as Germany, England, the United States, and Japan.
Currently, Condes de Albarei produces high-quality albariños from its 300 hectares of vineyards and boasts modern facilities equipped with the latest technology. The same group also owns the Pazo Baión winery, also within the D.O. Rías Baixas.
