Don’t miss this superb traditional Ribera del Duero, which we’re offering you in our exclusive version: Condado de Haza Club Reserva 2020.
General information
Condado de Haza is a major brand that’s well established in our Club Collection. Condado de Haza Club Reserva 2020 was designed at the ‘chateau’ winery owned by the Rivera Fernández family (the producers of Tinto Pesquera). The ‘Club’ surname denotes that this is an exclusive version, created specially for the Club, from a brand with assured quality. A rare and very special estate Tempranillo that’s been custom made for club members by the Fernández Rivera family.
This red wine was created from a selection of the best Tempranillo grapes grown on the estate, on vines with an average age of 30 years, and was aged for 25 months in American oak barrels. It was bottled in December 2022 and has been matured to perfection since then in the winery’s cellars.
Condado de Haza Club Reserva comes from the winery with the same name, which was founded in 1989 in Roa (Burgos) in the style of a chateau of Bordeaux. The Fernández Rivera family wanted to make a more modern-style wine, but respecting the recipe that earned them such great success in Tinto Pesquera: Tempranillo grapes grown on their own vineyards and a spell in American oak. The most distinctive feature of Condado de Haza is undoubtedly its resemblance to a chateau, with facilities and a vast 200-hectare vineyard all belonging to the same estate.
At Vinoselección we’ve been closely monitoring the development of Condado de Haza ever since we launched the first vintage produced by the newly established winery, and its wines have always had a great reception from members. In fact, Condado de Haza is one of the star labels of the Club collection. The first Condado de Haza Club wine was the 2012 vintage and since then it’s been produced in successive years.
Condado de Haza Club 2020 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is particularly special as it’s a Reserva – which the winery seldom makes. It’s ideal with red meat dishes like fillet of steak in mustard and red wine sauce. It’s also good with winged game like braised pigeon with wild mushrooms and truffles or duck magret with cranberry sauce.
CATA's notes
Gorgeous ripe cherry-red with a maroon rim, intense pigmentation and vivid colour. Initial aromas reminiscent of yoghurt whey together with hints of black plum jam, following by touches of spice (vanilla) and notes of toasted and smoked wood. Predominance of fruity flavours, very ripe fruit; tasty, fleshy and with a good balance between acidity, body and alcohol. Long finish with notes of jammy black fruit and hints of chocolate.
