General Information

We are pleased to present the second vintage on the market of CM Prestigio Matarromera 2017, born from old low-yield tempranillo vineyards located in the areas of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida: El Acueducto, Altabaza, Cuba Negra, and Larrázuri.

CM Prestigio Matarromera 2017 is a rioja with a very limited production. A red wine born from these four vineyards, which have a very small production capacity, resulting in just a handful of bottles. Vinoselección has acquired more than 80% of the bottles produced at Bodega CM de Matarromera of this red wine for you, the last ones remaining at the winery.

For its vinification, the tempranillo clusters were harvested and quickly transported to the winery, where a cold pre-maceration took place prior to the traditional winemaking process. After selecting the best grapes, the vinification was carried out in small tanks. Once this phase was completed, this red wine underwent malolactic fermentation in wooden vats and was then aged in French and American oak barrels for 18 months before bottling.

Tasting notes

It displays a beautiful ripe cherry red color with garnet rim. A high-layered red wine, lively and bright.

On the nose, it stands out for its complexity and intensity. The first notes correspond to ripe black fruits (plums and sloes). In the background, hints of chocolate and spicy memories (vanilla and clove) appear. The aromatic journey concludes with delicate smoky and yogurt whey notes.

On the palate, it is flavorful, elegant, and mature; offering tactile sensations full of fruity character and ripeness. A wine endowed with splendid balance in its structure, acidity, and alcohol relationship. Long and complex retronasal pathway, with echoes of ripe black fruit and undertones of dark chocolate.

The winery

Bodega CM de Matarromera
Founded in 2014 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Bodega CM de Matarromera (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is another remarkable project by the renowned Castilian-Leonese winemaker Carlos Moro, owner of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. This venture was born from Carlos Moro's desire to expand Bodegas Familiares Matarromera and become part of a denomination of origin as prestigious and iconic as Rioja (prior to the creation of Bodega CM de Matarromera, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera included only wineries within the denominations of origin influenced by the Duero River).

A business project aimed at producing high-end wines and sharing the philosophy upon which Bodegas Familiares Matarromera is founded: innovation, respect for sustainability and the environment, and the pursuit of the highest quality. Bodega CM de Matarromera owns 30 hectares of its own vineyards distributed across various plots located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida, as well as 60 controlled hectares situated in these towns and Ábalos.

The winery's facilities feature an impressive 300-meter-long underground cellar that houses 2,000 American and French oak barrels. Currently, Bodega CM de Matarromera produces the brands CM and Oinoz (D.O.Ca. Rioja). Additionally, this initiative also includes other select estate wines from symbolic vineyards in other denominations of origin, such as Toro, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, and Cigales.
