General Information

Based in the heart of the D.O.Ca. Rioja, Bodega CM de Matarromera is Carlos Moro's most personal winemaking venture. Here limited-production wines are made from grapes grown in old vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, one of the most prestigious areas in the Rioja wine region. The CM Matarromera range represents the essence of this philosophy: unique wines with procedures designed personally by the winemaker himself, who signs each bottle with his initials as a stamp of authenticity.

CM Matarromera Club 2021 is a single-varietal Tempranillo that’s been aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. Its ‘Club’ surname distinguishes it as part of a family reserved of exclusive wines created by Spain's most renowned wineries specially for Vinoselección. It's an elegant, deeply nuanced Rioja with a personality of its own.

More than a decade ago Carlos Moro invested in Rioja by acquiring some of the most coveted vineyards in the region. Today he owns 30 hectares in San Vicente and Labastida, as well as controlling another 75 hectares in Ábalos and nearby areas. All the plots are located less than seven kilometres from the winery, a strategic decision to preserve the freshness and quality of each bunch of grapes. This dedication results in wines that are real gems, such as this CM Matarromera Club 2021 that we're offering you.

The winery

Bodega CM de Matarromera
Founded in 2014 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Bodega CM de Matarromera (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is another remarkable project by the renowned Castilian-Leonese winemaker Carlos Moro, owner of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. This venture was born from Carlos Moro's desire to expand Bodegas Familiares Matarromera and become part of a denomination of origin as prestigious and iconic as Rioja (prior to the creation of Bodega CM de Matarromera, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera included only wineries within the denominations of origin influenced by the Duero River).

A business project aimed at producing high-end wines and sharing the philosophy upon which Bodegas Familiares Matarromera is founded: innovation, respect for sustainability and the environment, and the pursuit of the highest quality. Bodega CM de Matarromera owns 30 hectares of its own vineyards distributed across various plots located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida, as well as 60 controlled hectares situated in these towns and Ábalos.

The winery's facilities feature an impressive 300-meter-long underground cellar that houses 2,000 American and French oak barrels. Currently, Bodega CM de Matarromera produces the brands CM and Oinoz (D.O.Ca. Rioja). Additionally, this initiative also includes other select estate wines from symbolic vineyards in other denominations of origin, such as Toro, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, and Cigales.
