CM Matarromera Club 2020 is the materialization of a magnificent idea. The person responsible for making it possible is Carlos Moro. And since we love good ideas for our members, the winery and Vinoselección got to work to present this unique wine for its concept and design. Unique in its concept because it combines the experience and know-how of the parent house, Matarromera - hence it appears on the labels. And as for its design, it is also something exceptional, as it comes from a selection of the best barrels of the 2020 vintage, with the personal supervision of its creator. General Information
From the CM de Matarromera winery, the project developed by entrepreneur and winemaker Carlos Moro in the heart of the D.O.Ca. Rioja, we present to you CM Matarromera Club 2020. The high-end CM Matarromera range includes only wines made from old vines in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, the pinnacle of quality in Rioja vineyards. These are limited-production wines that represent the most personal line, as Carlos Moro himself establishes the production protocols, which is why they bear his initials (CM).
This red wine is a single-varietal Tempranillo with 12 months of aging in oak barrels, 65% French and 35% American. A sensational Rioja that proudly carries the surname ‘Club’ (we remind you that the ‘Club’ wine family includes only exclusive wines crafted by the most prestigious wineries).
It has been eleven years since Carlos Moro, the entrepreneur and winemaker who leads Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, arrived in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, investing in some of the most coveted vineyards of the Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja. Years before, he had been gathering some of the most sought-after vineyards in the region, amassing a total of 30 hectares of his own vineyards spread between San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida. Additionally, there are another 75 controlled hectares located between Ábalos and these same areas, always ensuring that the vineyards were situated within a radius of no more than seven kilometers from the winery to preserve the quality of the grapes.
CM Matarromera Club 2020 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) pairs perfectly with stuffed pig’s trotters with mushrooms or roasted lamb chops.
The winery
Founded in 2014 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Bodega CM de Matarromera (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is another remarkable project by the renowned Castilian-Leonese winemaker Carlos Moro, owner of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. This venture was born from Carlos Moro's desire to expand Bodegas Familiares Matarromera and become part of a denomination of origin as prestigious and iconic as Rioja (prior to the creation of Bodega CM de Matarromera, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera included only wineries within the denominations of origin influenced by the Duero River).
A business project aimed at producing high-end wines and sharing the philosophy upon which Bodegas Familiares Matarromera is founded: innovation, respect for sustainability and the environment, and the pursuit of the highest quality. Bodega CM de Matarromera owns 30 hectares of its own vineyards distributed across various plots located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida, as well as 60 controlled hectares situated in these towns and Ábalos.
The winery's facilities feature an impressive 300-meter-long underground cellar that houses 2,000 American and French oak barrels. Currently, Bodega CM de Matarromera produces the brands CM and Oinoz (D.O.Ca. Rioja). Additionally, this initiative also includes other select estate wines from symbolic vineyards in other denominations of origin, such as Toro, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, and Cigales.
