Cinco de Copas 2024 steps away from the usual with a Tinta de Toro from the D.O. Toro born in El Pego and aged 6 months in oak barrel. An intense and elegant red, with the firm personality of its vineyards at Los Lastros and El tomillar.

Cinco de Copas 2024 bets on precise and patient winemaking. It comes from the D.O. Toro and is produced exclusively from the denomination’s queen grape, Tinta de Toro, hand-picked in the plots of Los Lastros and El Tomillar, in El Pego.

The grapes come from vines planted in 1992 and 1982 on very sandy alluvial deposits, a setting that helps shape the character of the vineyard. The harvest took place between 10 and 26 September 2024, with spur pruning and viticulture attentive to dry conditions, marked by rainfall of 405 mm and an average temperature of 13.2 °C.

After selection, the wine was vinified as a red with a pre-ferment maceration of 4 days and 6 months of ageing in a Bordeaux-style barrel made of Hungarian and American oak. The Cuatro Mil Cepas winery, also known as Vinodiscolo, drives this project with a clear philosophy: to express the maximum purity of its terroir, something that Cinco de Copas 2024 translates into a strong identity tied closely to its origin.

Consumption features

Pairing

Cinco de Copas 2024 calls for dishes with more character to accompany its aromatic intensity and full-bodied palate. It goes especially well with lamb cutlets, grilled sirloin, oxtail, roast lamb and meat stews with a savoury base; it also pairs with cured cheeses and Iberian charcuterie, which accentuate its notes of spice, toasted and black fruit.

Making process

Vintage

Cinco de Copas 2024 was harvested manually between 10 and 26 September 2024, with a careful selection of the Tinta de Toro grape to pick it at its optimum ripeness and preserve its varietal character.

Winemaking

Cinco de Copas 2024 is produced with Tinta de Toro through a red winemaking process that begins with a pre-fermentative maceration of 4 days, designed to favour aromatic extraction and to give the wine more definition. During fermentation, two punch-downs are carried out daily and, until the end of the maceration, one additional, a steady effort that helps extract colour, structure and nuance. The entire process takes place at low temperature and extends the maceration to 31 days, thereby consolidating a more expressive, firm and balanced profile.

Aging

Cinco de Copas 2024 has been aged for 6 months in a Bordelaise barrel of Hungarian and American oak, a period designed to refine the expression of its Tinta de Toro and enhance its spicy and toasted character.

Vineyard

Description

Cinco de Copas 2024 originates from plots Los Lastros and El Tomillar, in El Pego, on soils of alluvial deposits, very sandy, which mark a vineyard of frank character and precise ripening. The vines, planted in 1992 and 1982, bring the experience and depth that sustain this Toro red, produced from Tinta de Toro. The surroundings, with a rainfall of 405 mm and an average temperature of 13.2 °C, sketch a dry, continental climate that favours a manual harvest with good concentration and an intense aromatic profile.

Age

Produced from Tinta de Toro vines aged between 30 and 60 years.

Climate

In El Pego, within the D.O. Toro, the vineyard sits in low rainfall conditions, with 405 mm of annual rainfall, and an average temperature of 13.2 °C, an environment that favours slow ripening and helps concentrate the character of the Tinta de Toro.

Viticulture

The loose sand from the alluvial deposits marks the character of Cinco de Copas 2024. In these vineyards at El Pego, planted in 1982 and 1992, the winery works with traditional viticulture, caring for the vineyard with spur pruning and hand harvest to select the Tinta de Toro at its best. The result is grapes with strong personality, coming from plots that seek to faithfully express the terroir of Toro.

Tasting notes

View

It presents a garnet red colour, of medium-to-high depth, clean and very intense, heralding a wine of great personality.

Nose

A very intense and expressive nose. From the outset, the nuances of spice and roasted notes stand out, well enveloped by a background of dark fruit that adds depth and character. An olfactory phase that is clear, complex and defined by its aromatic profile.

Mouth

In the mouth it is full-bodied and very expressive, with a savoury palate that keeps the strength of Tinta de Toro without coming across as aggressive. The ripe black fruit is well enveloped by notes of spice and toast, while its ageing provides a serious, well-integrated background. The finish is long and leaves a firm, persistent impression.
