Chollo 2024 is a fresh white wine crafted by the colleteiro winery Adega Manuel Formigo from ancestral vineyards of the loureira variety located in their estates Miñoteira and Portela, in the Avia Valley. Vinified following the lunar calendar, this young Galician white wine takes its name from the nickname of Manuel Formigo himself and faithfully reflects the granitic soils from which it originates. The result is a light and vibrant white wine with a pleasant mineral profile.
Cholo 2024 is a white wine made from old loureiro vines grown in the heart of the Avia Valley. Adega Manuel Formigo presents a mineral-profile white wine, the result of a manual harvest with a double selection of grape clusters, both in the vineyard and at the winery.
With the aim of preserving its properties and integrity, the grapes were transported to the winery quickly and in small tractors. Once at the winery, a gentle crushing was carried out, followed by pressing in a pneumatic press. This white wine from Adega Manuel Formigo does not undergo lees aging and was subjected to several rackings, always considering the appropriate lunar phase.
Cholo 2024 is a white wine under the D.O. Ribeiro designation, pairing especially well with poultry, white fish, and Galician-style octopus.

Tasting notes
Cholo displays an attractive straw yellow color. On the nose, it reveals aromas of ripe stone fruit followed by balsamic and herbal notes (chamomile, linden, and pennyroyal). Fatty, delicate, and intense, with excellent acidity.
Adega Manuel Formigo is a colleiteiro winery established in 2006 in the town of Beade, in the province of Ourense. The small family business of the Formigo de la Fuente family produces, as stipulated by the D.O. Ribeiro regulations, less than 60,000 liters per year of wines made exclusively with grapes from their own harvest.
The vineyard of Adega Manuel Formigo is mainly divided into three plots (Miñoteira, Portela, and Pousos) along the banks of the Avia River. There, on predominantly rocky, loose, and well-oxygenated soils, the winery practices what they call “granite viticulture”, where native varieties such as godello, torrontés, loureira, albariño, treixadura, caiño, tintilla, ferrol, sousón, or brancellao, sourced from the oldest clones in the area, take center stage.
The winery's facilities are located on the ground floor of the old family home of the Formigo de la Fuente family. Using traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation, they produce high-quality wines under the D.O. Ribeiro, faithfully expressing the typicity and terroir from which they originate.
