Since its foundation in 1785, Maison Piper-Heidsieck has consistently demonstrated its undeniable ability to innovate in the blending of exceptional wines. The pursuit of quality, excellence, and an open-minded approach are the main objectives of the winery, reflected throughout its range and, most notably, in this Champagne Piper-Heidsieck Riviera.
Piper-Heidsieck Riviera is a fresh, bold, and spontaneous champagne defined by its generous notes of stone fruit and citrus (peach, candied orange, lychee sorbet) with hints of sweet spices like vanilla. With an elegant and fresh palate, it is an ideal sparkling wine for all kinds of appetizers or as a base for mixed drinks and cocktails.
In appearance, it shows a light golden color with bright reflections.
Nose of certain intensity with hints of candied orange, lychee sorbet, peach, vanilla, and melon.
On the palate, notes of grapefruit and juicy white fruits (pear) appear. Well balanced.
It all begins when a young German discovers the Champagne region and its wines in the year 1777. This young man, named Florens-Louis Heidsieck, would later, in 1785, found the winery Piper-Heidsieck.
From the very beginning, the founder demonstrated the ambition of his project and sought to create a cuvée that could dazzle an entire queen, Marie Antoinette. Heidsieck succeeded, making the queen the first ambassador of the Heidsieck & Cie brand.
At the beginning of the 19th century, two men, Christian Heidsieck (nephew of Florens-Louis) and Henri-Guillaume Piper, joined the Reims company and managed to have the wines of the French firm served in up to 14 royal and imperial courts. They became the preferred wines of the main royal houses and high society.
By the 20th century, Piper-Heidsieck had become Hollywood's favorite champagne. In fact, it holds the honor of featuring in the first-ever appearance of a champagne bottle on the big screen. The greatest Hollywood stars became enamored with Piper-Heidsieck. Actors such as Ava Gardner, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, and Marilyn Monroe were great admirers of the French house's champagne.
Piper-Heidsieck crafts its champagnes using the three classic grape varieties of the Champagne region: pinot noir (powerful, berry aromas), meunier (fruity and fleshy), and chardonnay (vibrant and toasty). However, the flagship variety of the house is pinot noir, one of Piper-Heidsieck's distinguishing marks.
Piper-Heidsieck works with exceptional crus primarily located in the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Bar areas. In addition to its own vineyards, the French house has a special relationship with its grape growers, who are often independent partners.
