In 2003, Bodegas Torres made its first foray outside of Catalonia by acquiring the Pago del Cielo winery in Valladolid, of which Celeste Crianza 2021 is its flagship wine.
The long tradition and viticultural quality of Ribera del Duero attracted the Torres family to these lands, with the aim of producing unique wines that faithfully reflect their place of origin. Thus, Celeste Crianza 2021 was born, an expression of the exceptional terroir from which it comes: the Fompedraza estate with its clay-limestone soils, near the Duratón River and the town of Peñafiel, located at an altitude of almost 900 meters above sea level.
The magnificent location of the vineyard provides favorable conditions for obtaining high-quality tinto fino (tempranillo) grapes which, combined with the expertise of the Pago del Cielo team, resulted in a fruity, opulent red wine with good structure. Enjoy this Crianza from Ribera del Duero, with 12 months in barrel and a minimum of another 12 months in bottle, alongside all kinds of red meats, aged cheeses, and fine cured meats.
Celeste Crianza displays a dark cherry color, with garnet reflections.
It stands out for its impressive aroma of black fruits (wild blackberries) on a background of jam (cherries) and a toasted touch (torrefacto coffee).
On the palate, it is dense, velvety, and with a great fruity presence. Its long persistence, flavorful and perfumed, surprises with the appearance of the noble woods from the aging process.
Pago del Cielo is the winemaking project of the Familia Torres (winemakers from Penedès since 1870) based in two privileged regions for vine cultivation, Ribera del Duero and Rueda. Tradition, commitment to quality, and passion for viticulture come together in this project led by winemaker Juan Ramón García, which began to take shape in 2004 with the purchase of a small winery in Fompedraza, in the Campo de Peñafiel region (Valladolid), and currently has 45 hectares of owned vineyards.
It also includes the winery that Familia Torres has in Villafranca del Duero, in Rueda, since 2014, with its 20 hectares of vineyards. Pago del Cielo produces seven labels: the tinto fino wines Pago del Cielo, the new icon of the winery, Celeste Reserva, Celeste Crianza, Celeste Roble, and 62 Millas al Cielo, under the D.O. Ribera del Duero, the white Celeste Verdejo (D.O. Rueda), and Celeste Rosé (D.O. Cigales).
