Batec Gran Reserva is a unique and original wine. It is the first cava with underwater aging from the Costa Brava. After its vinification, following the traditional champenoise method, Celler Oliveda subjected the bottles to one year of aging under the sea, at a depth of 17 meters, followed by an additional 18 months of aging on the lees.

Cava Batec Gran Reserva is born in vineyards located in Catalonia, within the D.O. Cava, where the Mediterranean climate and the diversity of soils provide freshness and structure. The varieties pinot noir and xarel·lo are cultivated under traditional viticulture, taking advantage of the optimal sun exposure to achieve ripe and balanced grapes. These factors result in an expressive cava, with creaminess, tension, and a marked elegance.

The process begins with the production of a very personal base wine, which is then subjected to the second fermentation in the bottle following the traditional champenoise method. Batec Gran Reserva rests for 8 years in the darkness of the cellar, on its lees, refining its bubble and developing nuances ranging from white fruit and milky hints to toasted and honeyed aromas.

Freixa Rigau, integrated into the Oliveda group, is a winery located in Capmany (Girona), with a long winemaking tradition and a focus on innovation without losing its artisan essence. Its philosophy combines respect for the land with the search for new ways to make cava, as demonstrated by the limited edition of Batec, conceived to express the depth of time and the character of the territory.

Cava Batec Gran Reserva is ideal as an aperitif with pâtés, foie gras, cured meats, and smoked foods, and also pairs perfectly with grilled vegetables and baked fish.

The winery

Settled in the municipality of Capmany, in the Alt Empordà (Girona), Celler Oliveda is a winery founded in 1948 by Josep Oliveda Casanovas and his wife Joana Rigau Ros. Currently, the company dedicated to the production of still wines, cavas, and liqueurs is managed by the third generation of the family saga, represented by Alfons Freixa Oliveda.

In its 51 hectares of vineyards, Celler Oliveda combines the cultivation of native varieties such as garnacha tinta, samsó (cariñena), xarel.lo, macabeo, moscatel, and parellada, with other foreign ones like chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, syrah, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, or pinot noir. From these, it produces and markets wines under three different designations of origin: Empordà, Catalunya, and Cava.
