General Information

The vineyards originate from the Campo Arriba area, situated at 750 metres above sea level on stony, sandy, and calcareous soils, with vines over 30 years old and a subdued yield of 1,500–2,000 kg/ha. The climate is continental with Mediterranean influence, and the vineyard management combines bush and trellised vines, aiming for vegetative balance and uniform ripening. The varieties used are Monastrell (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), cultivated with practices focused on expressing the concentration and typicity of the terroir.

The harvest is conducted in small 15 kg boxes, and the grapes are carefully selected and destemmed without crushing. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks of 6,000 and 8,000 kg with temperature control (24–28 ºC), using indigenous yeasts and a maceration with skins for 10 days; the pressing is pneumatic, and malolactic fermentation occurs naturally. The wine matures in barrels for 10 months, made of oak (80% French, 20% American), with 60% new barrels, imparting notes of cocoa, vanilla, and spices that are perceptible on the nose and palate.

Produced by Bodegas Castaño, a family project associated with the Yecla region, with Monastrell as the emblematic variety of their craft. Under the direction of oenologist Mariano López Fernández and managed by the Castaño family, the winery combines its own vineyards and traditional techniques with controlled processes in the winery, seeking wines that reflect the maturity of old vines and the personality of the territory.

It pairs especially well with red meats, lamb, and roasts, as well as with meat stews and game dishes; it also complements cured cheeses, where its structure, lush tannins, and velvety finish contrast with intense flavours.

Tasting notes

Appearance: Shows an intense and bright garnet colour with violet reflections that indicate youthfulness and concentration.

Nose: Exhibits ripe black fruits such as blueberries and raspberries, complemented by subtle spices of clove and pepper, with hints of cocoa and vanilla derived from its oak ageing.

Palate: Smooth entry, with sweet and rounded tannins, good concentration and freshness; a velvety and delicate finish.
