General Information

Real Companhia Velha, a renowned winemaking company in Portugal, revives the tinta francisca, a noble and nearly extinct grape variety, in Carvalhas Tinta Francisca 2015, a wine of great intensity and extreme elegance.

With this single-varietal wine, the century-old Portuguese firm also pays homage to Quinta das Carvalhas, its flagship estate, a spectacular property from 1759 planted with old vines, located in a privileged setting in Pinhão, on the left bank of the Douro River. Carvalhas Tinta Francisca 2015 is the expression of this unique terroir and the history, experience, and knowledge of one of the most iconic winemaking companies in the neighboring country. Especially recommended for pairing with all types of meat, particularly roasted and grilled.

The winery

Founded in 1756 by a royal charter issued by José I of Portugal, Real Companhia Velha is the oldest winemaking company in the Portuguese territory and a true emblem in the Douro and Porto appellations.

The company boasts a heritage of 540 hectares of vineyards, distributed across some of the finest estates, mostly located on the left bank of the Douro River. Quinta das Carvalhas is the crown jewel. From this 600-hectare property, 120 of which are occupied by old vines, some up to 100 years old, come the most renowned wines of the brand, sold in over 45 countries, ranging from their Ruby Reserva to the vintages, including the more classic range of 10 and 20-year-old Ports or Tawny.
