Cargol Treu Vi 2023 is a unique single-varietal white wine made from xarel·lo, sourced from a single plot of less than one hectare called Gavarra, located in the heart of the Garraf massif. This vineyard, with vines over 70 years old, is planted on calcareous soils, which impart minerality and salinity to the wine. After the harvest, fermentation takes place in the winery in 300-liter French oak barrels using indigenous yeasts. Subsequently, it undergoes aging on its lees in the same barrel for 12 months, which is reflected in the final product.
Laurent Corrió and Irene Alemany met in Burgundy while studying oenology. Their shared passion for wine led to the creation of the first garage winery in Penedès in 1999. The vineyards of the Alemany I Corrió winery are located in Lavern, covering a total of 8 hectares on a gentle slope (around 15%), where varieties such as merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and 60-year-old cariñena are planted. Over the years, white varieties like xarel·lo, chardonnay, and malvasía have been gradually cultivated.
This outstanding white wine from the D.O. Penedès combines the acidity and freshness of the terroir with the richness provided by vinification and aging on its lees. With limited production, Cargol Treu Vi 2023 is a complete wine, ideal for pairing with spiced dishes and oily fish.
Pale straw yellow color, clean and bright.
Clean and intense nose, presenting aromas of white flowers, white fruit, citrus, smoky hints, and mineral nuances.
On the palate, notes of apple, pear, smoke, dried flowers, and vanilla dominate, with some salty touches and mineral undertones. A long and salty finish.
The adventure of Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió in Penedès began in 1999. From that very moment, they have been a benchmark in the region for their way of crafting and understanding the world of wine.
The winery started its journey in a small warehouse in Vilafranca del Penedès. Its protagonists are the aforementioned Laurent Corrió, biochemist and winemaker, and his wife, also a winemaker, Irene Alemany.
The winery's vineyards are located in Lavern, covering 8 hectares cultivated on a gentle slope (around 15%), where varieties such as 24-year-old Merlot, 26-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon, and 60-year-old Cariñena are planted. Over the years, white varieties like Xarel·lo, Chardonnay, and Malvasía have been gradually cultivated.
At the Alemany i Corrió winery, the unique vineyard management stands out, with significant restrictions on production, as they aim for greater phenolic concentration in their grapes. Regarding the local climate, it is also noteworthy that there is a clear Mediterranean influence with various microclimates and significant thermal variation.
The philosophy of the winery is to craft their wines following a process as artisanal as possible, highlighting the utmost fidelity to the terroir.
