La Capilla Merlot 2022 is a red wine made entirely from merlot grapes grown in the small plot ‘La Cofradía’, where 40-year-old vines thrive on clay soils with ferruginous layers. Expressive and with a distinctive personality, it is an original Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León crafted by Finca La Capilla, owned by the Forner family (Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres).
A typical climate in the area (Roa, Anguix, and La Horra), but with major exceptions such as the memorable Filomena storm, allowed the excellent merlot grapes used to produce La Capilla Merlot 2022 to achieve optimal ripening conditions for this variety, and made it possible for this 2021 vintage to be rated as Excellent. This Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León stands out for its aromas of red fruits, along with honeyed and toasted notes, with good breadth on the palate and distinguished elegance.
Finca La Capilla is a small winery located in the province of Burgos, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin. Its origins date back to 1998 and, currently, it is surrounded by 60 hectares of its own vineyards distributed among the towns of Roa, Anguix, and La Horra. The Castilian winery owes the quality of its creations to the expertise of the Forner family, with extensive experience in their Grand Cru Classé in Bordeaux or the renowned Marqués de Cáceres.
With a very limited production, the grapes that nourish this highly expressive red wine are harvested manually in a single day. The merlot clusters go through a selection table before undergoing alcoholic fermentation in small tanks with native yeasts. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation takes place in fine-grain French oak barrels and, once the process is completed, the wine continues aging in the same barrels for over a year, with additional bottle refinement for several months before its release. The result is this La Capilla Merlot 2022, a harmonious, unique, and elegant red wine, perfect for pairing with grilled, stewed, or roasted meats, poultry, pork, oven-roasted or grilled lamb, and aged cheeses.

Creators' opinion
La Capilla Merlot is a high-layer wine that reveals depth with a highly expressive nose. It unfolds a wide range of aromas of red fruits, currants, and plums, enveloped by fine notes of honey, toasted nuances, spices, and dark chocolate, derived from its aging in oak. Broad and harmonious on the palate, with polished tannins that offer elegance and distinction. It is a different, highly unique wine, worth bringing to the market in all its purity to appreciate its distinction.
Having recently celebrated half a century of history, Marqués de Cáceres presents itself as a winery that markets its creations in over 150 countries and stands as one of the best ambassadors of Spanish wines. The wine group led by Cristina Forner has recently launched a new initiative in Roa de Duero, Bodegas Finca La Capilla, where, with the Tempranillo variety as its flagship, they captivate us with the endless resources of the region's emblematic grape outside its native Rioja.
