The Familia Martínez Bujanda group’s star winery from the Finca Valpiedra in La Rioja, stands on one of the most attractive terroirs in Spain: a plot that holds both the wine-making facilities and vineyard, in the True château style, set on a bend in the Ebro river in the Rioja Alta area. Cantos de Valpiedra Crianza 2019 was created here, backed by one of the best Rioja vintages this century: a red with all the freshness and quality of the wines from this winery - but at a very affordable price.

Cantos de Valpiedra Crianza 2019 is the ‘little brother’ of Finca Valpiedra Reserva. For this Crianza, only tempranillo grapes from Finca Valpiedra are used. The wine comes from a vintage that got the highest rating in the D.O.Ca. Rioja: Excellent. Fermentation is in stainless steel tanks before ageing for 12 months in French and American oak barrels.
Finca Valpiedra holds the honour of being one of the most important terroirs in Spain, located between Cenicero and Fuenmayor, in the Rioja Alta sub-zone. The single plot of 80 hectares of old vineyard (average age: 45 years) is located on terraces on a meander of the Ebro river. Soils are loamy-sandy with a high proportion of boulders, a characteristic that sets it apart from other Rioja estates. From Finca Valpiedra’s beginnings, the Martínez Bujanda family conceived the project in the style of the Bordeaux châteaux. Starting off from a large vineyard, which passed into the hands of the family in 1994, they then built a winery equipped with the latest technologies.
The Martínez Bujandas practice viticulture with little intervention to obtain wines that reflect the terroir, such as Cantos de Valpiedra Crianza. A red wine whose name pays homage to the particular soils at Finca Valpiedra. This wine pairs very well with dishes like stewed lentils with chorizo and also with fabada.
Colour: Intense purple. Violet flashes of abundant, coloured and dense tears.
Nose: High aromatic intensity with notes of black fruits and ripe sloe berries; a very marked mineral profile, together with notes from the barrel such as vanilla, spices and tobacco, giving this wine great character. The Tempranillo variety is very marked and well integrated with the barrel.
Taste: The attack is fatty and intense with a sweet mid-palate, showing great finesse. Balanced acidity with alcohol, with a predominance of the typical freshness of the Valpiedras. Long, mineral finish, with hints of fine wood and great freshness.
After purchasing the vineyard in 1994, the Martínez Bujanda family built the winery on the same estate, in the 'château' style, and inaugurated Finca Valpiedra in 1999. Today, it is one of the most renowned wineries in Rioja. The facilities and vineyards occupy a single estate located between the municipalities of Cenicero and Fuenmayor, on one of the most spectacular meanders of the Ebro River as it passes through La Rioja, and it encompasses 80 hectares of vineyards with an average age of nearly 50 years.
The vineyards are divided into 15 plots distributed across three terraces of sandy-loam soils, with a high proportion of pebbles that give the plot its name. Due to its uniqueness, Finca Valpiedra is part of the prestigious Grandes Pagos de España association.
