Cair Cuvée 2023 is a red from the D.O. Ribera del Duero produced with 85% Tempranillo and 15% Merlot and that well reflects the personality of a demanding vintage. Manual harvest, double selection and 10 months ageing in oak barrels help refine a juicy, careful and intense wine.
From vineyards with an average age of 25 years, distributed between La Aguilera, Haza, Quintana del Pidio and Moradillo de Roa. They are plots located at high altitude, with sandy soils, somewhat clayey and with plenty of gravel. That mosaic of terrains gives depth and makes each area contribute its own accent, without losing balance or freshness.
Dominio de Cair was born in 2008 with a very clear idea: to work from the vineyard and let the vineyard guide the way. The winery features state‑of‑the‑art facilities and very precise control of each plot. Everything is geared towards respecting the grape and expressing, naturally, the character of a land that speaks loud and clear. Try it with Cair Cuvée 2023.

Description
Cair Cuvée 2023 comes from vines with an average age of 25 years, spread across La Aguilera, Haza, Quintana del Pidio and Moradillo de Roa, in plots situated above 800 metres above sea level and reaching heights of up to 960 metres. The soils, consisting of sand, some clay and abundant scree, impart minerality and character to a Ribera del Duero landscape marked by the demands of the 2023 vintage, very dry and under extreme conditions, mitigated at the start of September by rainfall that helped restore balance to the vine.
Age
The average age of the vineyard is 25 years.
Climate
The 2023 vintage was very dry and extreme, although the rains in early September helped relieve water stress and achieve an early and well-balanced ripening in the grapes.
Viticulture
In Cair Cuvée 2023, viticulture relies on meticulous care of an old vineyard with an average age of 25 years, spread across La Aguilera, Haza, Quintana del Pidio and Moradillo de Roa, where altitude and plot selection allow precise work to seek the appropriate phenolic ripeness of Tempranillo and Merlot. During the 2023 vintage, very dry and demanding, field work was reinforced with a rigorous selection of the bunches so that the grapes arrived at the winery in optimal condition, reflecting a traditional cultivation method that is respectful of the fruit.
Bodegas Luis Cañas (1970) is one of the most prominent wineries in Rioja Alavesa, owned by one of the most distinguished families in Rioja winemaking and currently managed by Juan Luis Cañas. Since 2008, the company has embarked on a new venture far from its origins, in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, under the name of Dominio de Cair.
Dominio de Cair is a project born from the vineyard, as tempranillo, just like in Rioja, is also the foundation of its wines. In stunning and avant-garde facilities, equipped with the latest technology to care for the meticulously tended vineyard, the red wines of this remarkable winery are created. A brand that follows the same quality standards as Bodegas Luis Cañas: selection of the best clusters in the vineyard, meticulous monitoring of each plot to determine its harvest and the destination of the clusters, selection table at the winery, and respectful winemaking with the fruit.
Dominio de Cair has 110 hectares of owned and controlled vineyards, at an altitude exceeding 800 m, with vines spread across the municipalities of La Aguilera, Quintana del Pidio, Gumiel de Mercado, and Moradillo de Roa (D.O. Ribera del Duero).
