General Information
Bordón Edición Especial Reserva 2018 is a single-varietal Tempranillo from vineyards located in the three subzones of Rioja: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Media, on the northern slopes of the Sierra de la Demanda. Different origins and soil types are reflected in a red wine with rich complexity. After selecting the fruit, the winemaking process involves destemming the grape clusters and gently crushing the grapes, followed by alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation.
It undergoes aging for at least 30 months in medium-toast French oak and American white oak (Ohio) barrels, with racking every six months to facilitate natural clarification. Subsequently, the wine remains in the bottle for 6 months for refinement.
Bodegas Franco-Españolas is a benchmark among the historic wineries of our country and the only centenary winery still located within the urban area of Logroño. Founded in 1890 by the Frenchman Frederick Anglade, along with other Spanish partners (hence the name “Franco-Españolas”), it is now entirely Spanish-owned and has been managed by the Eguizábal family since 1983. Borja Eguizábal, the third generation, is the current general manager.
Bodegas Franco-Españolas adapts to current consumer tastes while respecting its historical legacy, and its portfolio includes centenary brands such as Bordón and Diamante. Their wines are primarily made by blending grapes from different vineyards, following the Rioja tradition.
The winery has underground cellars where 15,000 barrels rest. Regarding the vineyards, it relies mainly on local winegrowers with long-term contracts. Most of the Tempranillo vines supplying their wines are located in the subzones of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, while Garnacha is primarily cultivated in Rioja Oriental.
Bordón Edición Especial Reserva 2018 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal for pairing with grilled sweetbreads or migas extremeñas.
