General Information

Bordón Edición Especial Reserva 2017 is a single-varietal wine made from Tempranillo grapes grown in the three Rioja subzones. The different origins and types of soil are reflected in this richly complex red. It was aged for between 13 and 14 months in medium-toast French oak and American white oak (Ohio) barrels and subsequently matured to perfection in the bottle.

Bodegas Franco-Españolas is a leading name among Spain’s historic wineries and the only century-old firm that still remains in Logroño’s city centre. Founded in 1890 by Frenchman Frederick Anglade, together with other Spanish partners (hence the name ‘Franco-Españolas’), today it’s wholly Spanish-owned and has been in the hands of the Eguizábal family since 1983. Borja Eguizábal, the third generation, is the current general manager.

Bodegas Franco-Españolas caters to the tastes of today’s consumers but respecting the winery’s historical legacy and its products include century-old brands such as Bordón and Diamante. Its wines are made chiefly from blends from different vineyards, in accordance with the Rioja tradition.

The winery’s underground cellars house 15,000 barrels. Grapes are chiefly supplied by local growers with long-term contracts. Most of the Tempranillo vineyards are located in the Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa subzones, whereas the Garnacha mainly comes from Rioja Oriental.

The red Bordón Edición Especial Reserva 2017 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal with pulses with meat and meatballs cooked in a sauce.

Creators' opinion

The colour of ripe cherries with ruby-red hues, medium-high pigmentation. Complex nose with undertones of spice and red fruits. Elegant and classical nose with touches of jam, toffee, chocolate and spices. Good structure in the mouth, flavoursome, fleshy, good balance and weight of fruit. Full and elegant on mid-palate. Ripe, serious finish. Aromatic aftertaste with great finesse.

Located in the heart of Logroño, Bodegas Franco-Españolas caters to the current tastes of consumers while respecting the winery's historical legacy, because, as they themselves state, “there are few things better than a good classic.” Its facilities, featuring elegant architecture, span 59,000 square meters, and its underground cellars house 15,000 barrels where their Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva wines are aged.
