Barbeito Malvasía Reserva 5 Years Old is a sweet single-varietal white wine resulting from a thorough selection of the best Malvasía grape clusters from various vineyards controlled by Vinhos Barbeito.
Once in the winery, the wine ferments until it reaches the optimal sugar content and is then fortified with vinous alcohol. Its 5-year aging in French oak barrels is carried out through the well-known canteiro method. A traditional process used in high-quality Madeiras, consisting of aging the wines without artificial heat, placing the barrels on wooden racks or canteiros located in the highest points of the winery where the temperature is higher.
Barbeito is a family-owned winery producing wines on the Portuguese island of Madeira. With a history of three generations in management, they are currently recognized experts in the production of these unique wines, which are especially appreciated in the Anglo-Saxon world.
Barbeito Malvasía Reserva 5 Years Old is the perfect balance between acidity and sweetness. Perfect for pairing with desserts, cheeses, pudding, or candied fruits.
In appearance, it presents a beautiful golden color.
On the nose, notes of toasted almonds, honey, and a hint of smokiness stand out.
Slightly caramelized on the palate, it is a wine with a fresh and polished finish.
Of great international prestige, Barbeito is a family winery founded in 1946 by Mário Barbeito de Vasconcelos. Although initially the company was dedicated to the production of glass bottles, over time they became producers of Madeira wines, sourcing grapes from the best viticulturists in the region and crafting them while respecting the traditional method. The success of these wines, already consumed by the English in the 17th century, has made them highly sought-after and appreciated primarily in the international market.
Barbeito currently offers a wide range of wines in three categories: Single Harvest (single-varietal vintage wines made using the traditional canteiro method), Single Cask (from barrels selected for their exceptional quality), and Frasqueira (the jewels of the winery, with over 20 years of maturation).
