The Gil family has created some of the country's finest wines, such as El Nido in their homeland of Jumilla. With the turn of the 21st century, they expanded to other regions, always focusing on local grape varieties. In the D.O. Almansa, they work with their flagship grape: garnacha tintorera, one of the best native grapes in the country. A rare variety unlike any other; in fact, it is the only grape with colored pulp, giving rise to powerful and unique wines. La Atalaya del Camino Cuvée Especial 2023 is a blend of garnacha tintorera and monastrell, crafted with a selection of vines and aged in French oak. You will only find it at Vinoselección, and it comes with the success of the previous two vintages. You won’t regret it!

La Atalaya del Camino Cuvée Especial 2023 is a unique red wine made from vineyards of the garnacha tintorera and monastrell varieties, planted in calcareous soils at altitudes between 700 and 1000 meters. After selecting the best grapes, both varieties ferment separately in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Once the maceration-fermentation process is completed, the wine undergoes aging in French oak barrels.
Bodegas Atalaya (2007) is part of Viñas Familia Gil. Miguel Gil is the most visible face of this thriving group, managed by the fourth generation of a lineage of passionate vine growers and winemakers. Since his great-grandfather Juan Gil Jiménez founded the family winery (Bodega Juan Gil) in the center of Jumilla, 100 years have passed. In 2001, Miguel Gil took charge of the relaunch and modernization of the family winery Juan Gil and founded the winery El Nido.
After the creation of El Nido winery, Viñas Familia Gil began to grow significantly, expanding to other denominations of origin and always focusing on native grape varieties. In 2007, they arrived at the small D.O. Almansa (Albacete) and founded Bodegas Atalaya.
Bodegas Atalaya is located in Paraje Atalaya, 3 km north of the town of Almansa. Its vineyards grow at an altitude of 700 meters, on poor calcareous soils and in a continental climate with scarce rainfall, ideal conditions for achieving low yields and high-quality grapes with great color and aroma concentration in the wines.
The vegan red wine La Atalaya del Camino Cuvée Especial 2023 (D.O. Almansa) is perfect to pair with baked rice, beef stew, or cocoa-based desserts.
