Bodegas Valdesil possesses one of the most important wine heritages in the D.O. Valdeorras, where great wines such as Asadoira Godello sobre Lías 2022 are produced. The godello grapes that give rise to this wine come from a plot located on the most prestigious slope of the Sil valley, cultivated for 2200 years. With a privileged orientation, part of its vineyard was replanted in trellis, a few years ago, with a massal selection of Pedrouzo, considered the oldest godello vineyard in the world.
After a pre-fermentation maceration with its skins, the must is fermented with native yeasts in concrete tanks. Then, the wine rests for 9 months along with its lees in ovoid tanks. The advantage of these tanks lies in the circular movement that the wine performs inside, promoting greater contact with the lees. Additionally, the concrete allows for a slower evolution and micro-oxygenation without adding aromas, unlike wood.
Bodegas Valdesil (D.O. Valdeorras) is one of the firms responsible for the resurgence of the godello variety. The quality of its vineyards and its long family tradition in winemaking have allowed them to produce spectacular single-varietal whites, as you will discover when tasting this excellent Asadoira Godello sobre Lías 2022.
It presents a very bright straw yellow color to the eye.
On the nose, notes of yeasts from contact with its lías are perceived, along with slightly smoky floral memories.
Its entry on the palate is harmonious, balanced, and fresh. With a dry and aromatic aftertaste.
Valdesil has been one of the key players in the recovery of Godello in Galicia, an excellent native variety capable of competing in quality with any white grape in our country. The winery, located in Córgomo, in the municipality of Vilamartín de Valdeorras in Ourense, has uniquely harnessed the slate slopes of the region, which are responsible for the unmistakable minerality of the wines from this area.
Valdesil is owned by the third generation of the Prada Gayoso family, a family with a long winemaking tradition that, just over a decade ago, decided to recover all the "pezas" (plots) of Godello that had belonged to them in the past. In just a few years and through hard work, the winery has established itself as one of the most important wine producers in the D.O. Valdeorras, with its influence extending to Bierzo with remarkable success. The responsibility for the winery's production lies with the Prada Gayoso family, supported externally by Cristina Mantilla in oenology and José Ramón Lissarrague in viticulture.
