Llanito Perera gives its name to the highest area of the town of Icod de los Vinos (Tenerife), with zones ranging from 575 to 650 meters above sea level. Artífice Listán Blanco Llanito Perera 2021 is a single-varietal Listán Blanco from old vines in traditional trellises, over 80 years old, planted on stony soils with a high amount of sand. A wine from a specific place that aims to elevate quality standards, distinguished by its freshness and its characteristic citrus notes.
The philosophy of the young Borja Pérez focuses on making wines based on the unique characteristics of the area they are in: volcanic soils, an Atlantic climate with the influence of trade winds, and unique grape varieties such as white Marmajuelo or Listán Blanco and the red Listán Negro, Baboso Negro, or Vijariego.
Artífice Listán Blanco Llanito Perera 2021 is a wine from the D.O. Ycoden Daute Isora that is made with used 228-liter barrels where it ferments spontaneously. Once the alcoholic fermentation is completed, it spends 12 months in barrels with all its lees to carry out the malolactic fermentation. After aging, the 3 barrels are blended together and finished with filtration and clarification before bottling. With a limited production of less than 1000 bottles, Artífice Listán Blanco Llanito Perera is ideal for pairing with fish rice dishes.
Artífice Listán Blanco Llanito Perera exhibits a clean and bright golden yellow color.
Intense nose where aromas of ripe white fruit stand out, with intense hints of lemon peel and aromatic herbs.
On the palate, it stands out for its silky, delicate, and velvety texture. It is fresh with a persistent finish that reveals citrus notes.
Artífice originates with the aim of paying tribute to all the people from the countryside who have made agriculture their way of life, while preserving, in some way, the winemaking tradition of the Canary Islands.
Although the Pérez family has been working in the wine trade for many years, it was in 2011 when the young Borja Pérez took the lead on this project in Ycoden Daute Isora. He transitioned from being a race car mechanic and fire truck driver to leading his own winemaking project called Ignios Orígenes.
For Borja Pérez, Ignios Orígenes had to be based on the unique characteristics of the area they are in: volcanic soils, an Atlantic climate influenced by trade winds, and unique grape varieties such as the white marmajuelo and the red listán negro, baboso negro, or vijariego.
After gaining recognition with the Ignios project, the winemaker from Tenerife created different wines under the Artífice brand. With this project, he preserves old vineyards from small local growers with low production, from whom he buys the grapes. In these vineyards, a reasonable viticulture is practiced, with good advisory work for the growers and minimal intervention in the winemaking process. The aim is to craft authentic wines, enhancing native varieties and always respecting the fruit.
In his winemaking approach, Borja Pérez does not reject technological innovations; he simply emphasizes that they should be used when necessary, but never to alter the wine's style. Pérez oversees all processes of winemaking, from working in the field to the sale of the final product.
