The D.O. Navarra has a brilliant future ahead of it thanks to Garnacha, a variety that dates back a long way in this region but was unfairly pushed into the background in the 1980s and 1990s. Now it’s been in the limelight for some time. Aroa Larrosa 2023 is made by a boutique winery owned by the Vintae group. In fact, the company’s CEO Richi Arambarri and technical director Raúl Acha, both from Alto Najerilla, have confessed that they’re in love with this variety. This passion for Garnacha and traditional winemaking techniques have given rise to an excellent, highly expressive rosé that’s fresh and fruity.

Aroa Larrosa 2023 is made solely from Garnacha, the variety that’s spearheading the renaissance of Navarrese wine. It was grown on low-yielding vines at the northernmost boundary of the area where red grapes are cultivated. Protected by the Urbasa and Andía mountain ranges, the vines grow in cool calcareous-clay soils that have never been treated with synthetic chemical products. The grapes were harvested by hand and selected on a sorting table. The winemaking process involved directly draining off the juices from the tank and fermentation at a low temperature to preserve all the aromas and freshness of the grapes.
Belonging to the Vintae group, Aroa is a small winery that’s a pioneer in Navarra in returning to organic and biodynamic grape growing practices. It’s focused on sustainable management: in fact, it’s one of the few Spanish wineries to possess the Wineries for Climate Protection certificate awarded by the Spanish Wine Federation. The firm and its vineyards are located in the Yerri valley, sheltered by the Urbasa and Andía mountains, in one of the highest and coolest areas of Navarra. Its wines are the result of an artisanal process with minimal intervention.
The vegan rosé Aroa Larrosa 2023 (D.O. Navarra) is ideal with Ibérico pork deli meats (ham, loin, etc.). At mealtimes, pair it with rice dishes such as seafood paella or baked fish like seabream in a salt crust.
Appearance: Clear and bright. Ruby red. Pinkish raspberry hues.
Nose: Fresh and fruity, very intense. Initial impression of red fruits (raspberries and wild strawberries) and delicate floral hints of pinks. After it’s allowed to breathe for a few minutes, citrus fruits, ripe mandarin, melon and tropical fruits come to the fore.
Palate: Crisp, fruity, very fresh and clean attack. Part-sweet and part-acidic mid-palate, very moreish with subtle notes of citrus fruits, white fruits (melon) and confectionary.
At Aroa Bodegas, the entire project is focused on sustainable management and the use of natural resources with the least impact on the environment and surroundings. Located in El Valle de Yerri, sheltered by the Urbasa and Andía mountain ranges, it is one of the highest areas in Navarra, standing out for its freshness and the influence that the proximity of the Cantabrian Sea brings to its climate. Aroa wines are organic and are crafted through an artisanal process, with the aim of expressing the essence of the place where they are born, without additives or alterations. To achieve the best results, each plot and variety is harvested separately. It has 25 hectares of its own vineyards and an additional 26 hectares under control.
