General Information

Last year we presented for the first time this brand marketed exclusively by Vinoselección and produced by Lagar de Cervera, the Rías Baixas  winery owned by the prestigious La Rioja Alta S.A. group.  And it was such a success that we’ve repeated the experience with the new vintage. Armenteira 2023 is a fascinating Albariño that combines plots from two sub-areas of the Denominación: O Rosal, with acidic, sandy-loam soils with a high proportion of schist and  O Salnés (Pontevedra), with granitic soil.

The 2023 harvest was one of the earliest in recent years, beginning on 31 August on the Silvosa estate (O Rosal) and on 8 September in the northernmost vineyard, Viñadeiro (O Salnés). The bunches underwent the initial selection and harvesting by hand and were transported quickly in small crates to the winery's refrigerated facilities. They were then examined berry by berry by the optical sorter, discarding those that did not meet the strict parameters. For the first time, the grapes from O Salnés were vinified at the new Lagar de Cervera winery built on the Troviscoso estate (Cambados).

The paste was cooled to 10°C for pressing in an inert environment to avoid undesired oxidation.  After racking, fermentation was carried out at 15ºC. Due to this year’s weather conditions and the balance of the musts obtained, the wines did not undergo malolactic fermentation. The wine was kept in the tanks on the fine lees, which were kept in suspension by periodic stirring in order to add complexity.

With some of the most award-winning Rioja wines in its catalogue, La Rioja Alta S.A. was looking to add high quality whites to its portfolio. For this new adventure undertaken in the late nineties, it found the ideal location in the Lagar de Cervera winery in O Rosal (D.O. Rías Baixas). Under the management of La Rioja Alta, Lagar de Cervera spearheaded the renewal of Galician whites. In addition, the winery has managed to bring together one of the most extensive and important vineyards in the D.O. Rías Baixas.

Armenteira 2023 (D.O. Rías Baixas) is perfect with steamed mussels or octopus with olive oil and paprika.

Lagar de Fornelos

Lagar de Fornelos is located in an enviable natural landscape, in the Galician town of O Rosal. Founded by the Fernández Cervera family, since 1988 it has belonged to the La Rioja Alta S.A. Group. Under the direction of this prestigious Rioja firm, Lagar de Cervera began the task of expanding its vineyard, now boasting one of the largest vineyards in the D.O. Rías Baixas. In 2013, it inaugurated new and modern facilities.

Currently, it produces the brands Lagar de Cervera (100% albariño) and Pazo de Seoane Rosal.
