On the palate, Abel Mendoza Jarrarte is dry and with a fresh structure, manifesting a pleasant sensation that quickly covers our entire mouth with a balance of pleasant sensations. Slight astringency, produced by a pleasant tannin. And a sensation of mellowness, of dry sweetness, produced by glycerin and alcohol. All in balance with an enveloping mineral touch.
Founded in 1988 by Abel Mendoza and his wife Maite Fernández, this Rioja winery, located on the left bank of the Ebro River and facing the Sierra Cantabria, began by marketing young wines made using the carbonic maceration technique under the Jarrarte brand. Their drive to develop more complex wines led them, a decade later, to focus on different vinifications from both white and red varieties, with the aim of creating wines with their own personality destined to endure over time.
The vineyards of Abel Mendoza are cultivated on rugged terrains with various compositions (clay-limestone, sandy, and stony soils) and are spread across 42 small plots that the winery harvests manually and works on throughout the year with the utmost respect for the environment.
