Abadal Picapoll 2023 is a unique and captivating white wine crafted by the modern winery Bodegas Abadal with the aim of highlighting the identity of the wines from the small D.O. Pla de Bages. Made from the native picapoll grape variety, it is a broad and refreshing white wine with a generous body, harmoniously combining aromas of white fruit and stone fruit (pineapple, apricot) with delicate floral notes and hints of lavender, mint, and fennel. It boasts great complexity and good volume on the palate, thanks to its fermentation and 3-month aging on lees.
Abadal Picapoll 2023 comes from one of the smallest denominations of origin in our country: the D.O. Pla de Bages, a region in the center of Catalonia, where family-run wineries abound. Bodegas Abadal is one of the most important and stands out for being equipped with the latest technology and 50 hectares of vineyards adjacent to the old family farmhouse, where French-origin varieties coexist with local varieties. Founded in 1983 by Valentín Roqueta, Bodegas Abadal embodies centuries of winemaking tradition from the Roqueta family.
Abadal Picapoll 2023 is the first wine on the wine market made entirely from picapoll grapes, a native variety of Bages with a long tradition of cultivation in the area, first referenced in 1564 in an inventory of the Sant Benet de Bages monastery. Abadal continues this tradition and, in its commitment to preserving the identity values of the Catalan D.O., has dedicated itself to researching, working with, and producing wines from this local white variety to introduce it to the general public. Abadal Picapoll pairs well with a wide variety of dishes such as salt-crusted sea bream, shashimi, noodles with mushroom sauce, or even, for dessert, with a tarte Tatin.
Abadal is the most representative and important winery of the D.O. Pla de Bages, as well as being responsible for putting this small Catalan denomination on the map. Founded in 1983 by Valentín Roqueta, Abadal embodies centuries of winemaking and viticulture tradition of the Roqueta family. It features modern facilities located amidst a pine forest, in an area of great beauty, near the family estate Roqueta, which boasts over 9 centuries of history and a long tradition in vine cultivation.
Abadal is characterized by being a winery heavily influenced by French viticulture; in fact, its vineyards stand out for the presence of French grape varieties, such as merlot and cabernet franc.
