Chile has championed red wines made with the carménère grape; although it also has a wide range of French-origin grapes perfectly adapted to its soils, such as syrah. Both varieties make up the blend of 120 Carmenère Reserva Especial 2022 (85% Carmenère and 15% Syrah). The vineyards are located in the Central Valley region, with a semi-humid Mediterranean climate and summers where east and west winds cause great thermal oscillations with low temperatures at night.
The harvest took place in late April and early May. After destemming and crushing, alcoholic fermentation began at temperatures between 25 to 28 ºC. Once completed, the wines were racked and the skins were pressed.
With more than 2500 kilometers from the Aconcagua Valley to the Bío Bío region, Chile boasts its enormous diversity of 'terroirs', from which a wide array of wines of all profiles are born. From the Pacific coast to the Andean mountain range, the country is made up of a puzzle of wine-producing regions where, moreover, the vineyards have not suffered the devastating consequences of phylloxera.
Founded in 1880, Santa Rita was one of the wineries responsible for the quality leap that Andean wines took during the 20th century. Its red 120 Carmenère Reserva Especial 2022 is very versatile, ideal for accompanying a wide variety of dishes. It pairs especially well with hunter-style rabbit, stewed quail, or pheasant stuffed with mushrooms.
