Vins Algars

Vins Algars is a family winery located in Batea, in the D.O. Terra Alta. All their wines are organic and come exclusively from 32 hectares of their own vineyards, where native varieties such as garnacha blanca, garnacha tinta, and garnacha peluda dominate. Their estates are located in different areas of the municipality, with varying altitudes and soil types, such as stony, calcareous, clayey, panal...

The original Vins Algars winery was founded in 1940. It is located within the village, with different levels to work with gravity, underground cement tanks, and very thick walls. In 2020, they built a new winery on the outskirts, in the middle of the vineyard, which is technically more efficient and also more sustainable. It features a photovoltaic system that allows the entire winemaking and bottling process to be carried out using solar energy. The aging of the wines continues to take place in the old winery, as it provides better conditions for the barrels, maintaining a constant temperature and humidity throughout the year.

The D.O. Terra Alta (Tarragona) is located in the south of Catalonia, between the Ebro River and the border with Aragón. Its winemaking tradition dates back to the Middle Ages, and it boasts a complex topography, surrounded by various mountains and crossed by small valleys. It is characterized by high-altitude vineyards situated on natural terraces over calcareous soils, conditions that give the wines their unique character. The vineyards are cultivated under dry farming practices.

Regarding the climate, the region experiences cold winters and very hot summers, with low rainfall. Two winds dominate: the Cierzo and the “Garbí.” The former is dry and warm, coming from inland, while the latter is humid and cool, coming from the sea. The combination of these winds creates ideal conditions for grape ripening.
