Vinos La Zorra

Vinos La Zorra
Vinos La Zorra is a small project by the young duo Agustín Maíllo and Olga Martín, wine lovers and natives of their homeland: the Sierra de Francia (Salamanca), a region with a millenary winemaking tradition. For the creation of their wines, they relied on Agustín's brief prior experience, who, determined to craft a wine for his family's restaurant in Mogarraz, had previously made La Zorra 2010 in rented facilities. The winemaking bug had bitten and was there to stay, prompting him to establish his own winery. Thus, in 2012, Vinos La Zorra was born, with facilities located in Mogarraz, right in the heart of the Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia Natural Park.

At Vinos La Zorra, they strive for authenticity and fidelity to the concept of terroir. The recovery and study of native grape varieties, particularly the rufete grape, have been the key to their success: they have surpassed the 90-point mark in ratings from the most influential critics, such as Robert Parker. Vinos La Zorra markets three labels under the umbrella of the D.O. Sierra de Salamanca: the red wines La Zorra and Cabras Pintas, and the white 8 Vírgenes Serranas. A total of 60,000 bottles are produced annually, 60% of which are destined for export. The winery manages 20 hectares of vineyards (10 ha owned and 10 ha controlled) divided into 9 small plots separated by wooded areas, all cultivated as bush vines and some on terraces, where local grape varieties such as rufete, tinto aragonés (tempranillo), garnacha, palomino fino, and moscatel de grano menudo coexist.
