In the 1990s, the group La Rioja Alta decided to embark on an expansion plan that led to the founding of Bodegas y Viñedos Áster in Ribera del Duero. For this project, the company combined the desire to achieve oenological excellence with the philosophy of using only estate-owned vineyards for wine production. Precisely due to this perfectionist drive, the first wine labeled as Áster did not see the light until the year 2000, when the vines finally produced grapes of sufficient quality for its production.
In 2002, shortly after the launch of its first wine, Áster built its winery in Anguix, a facility equipped with the most modern technology. The 95 hectares of tinta del país vineyards, located between this Burgos municipality and La Horra, have now reached full maturity—most were planted in 1991—and are operating at full capacity.
