Bodega y Viñedos Uribes Madero

Bodega y Viñedos Uribes Madero

The history of Pago Calzadilla dates back to 1979, when the Uribes Madero family decided to purchase a 26-hectare estate located in Huete, in the Alcarria Conquense region, specifically in the Valley of the Río Mayor, an area situated at an altitude between 900 and 1,000 meters where there was no winemaking tradition. Here, in 1980, they began planting vines on slopes trained on trellises, and in 1992 they produced their first wine. Today, Pago Calzadilla encompasses 20 hectares of vineyards that produce 100,000 kg of grapes from the varieties tempranillo, garnacha, syrah, and cabernet sauvignon.

The personality of the Pago Calzadilla ‘terroir,’ with its limestone soils rich in the mineral ‘lapis specularis,’ exclusive to the Alcarria Conquense, makes the wines from this winery truly unique. In fact, since 2011, Pago Calzadilla has been one of the few Spanish wineries recognized as a “Vino de Pago,” the highest quality category, which allows it to produce wines under its own Denomination of Origin: D.O. Pago Calzadilla. Given their very limited production, the Uribes family is committed to practicing artisanal viticulture and winemaking. Their wines, both intense and elegant, undergo long aging periods in barrels and bottles.
