Sierra Cantabria

Sierra Cantabria
Son and grandson of winegrowers, Guillermo Eguren founded the winery Sierra Cantabria in 1957 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. This marked the beginning of the modern history of a saga that, at that time, had already been producing wine in Rioja for nearly a century. In 1980, his son Marcos Eguren took over the winery's oenological direction and embarked on the path of high quality, first improving the quality of maceration wines and later entering the segment of great aged red wines. Later, together with his brother Miguel Ángel, he initiated a series of key projects in the Rioja wine revolution of the 1990s, such as Señorío de San Vicente (1991), where they embodied their new philosophy: wine as a reflection of the identity of the terroir.

The Eguren family has been cultivating vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra (Rioja Alta) since 1870. The philosophy of this winemaking saga has always been the pursuit of excellence starting with the raw material. To achieve this, they source from an excellent vineyard located mainly in the areas of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida, and Laguardia, a region known as the Sonsierra, which offers extraordinary conditions for cultivating the tempranillo grape.

The Sierra Cantabria winery is the origin of what is today a group formed by six wineries, producing wines that compete at the forefront of both national and international markets, and that have marked a before and after in the world of Spanish wine, such as Amancio, La Nieta, or Finca El Bosque.
