Producciones Amodiño

The renowned film director, screenwriter, and producer returns to the land of his ancestors, in the heart of Ribeiro, to craft one of the finest white wines from Galicia: Sanclodio (a wine named after the monastery that gave rise to Ribeiro). He produces limited-edition wines conceived from the revalued native grape Treixadura, sourced from the six hectares Cuerda oversees in the most coveted area of this denomination of origin. Born in Albacete but Galician by heritage, filmmaker José Luis Cuerda ventured into the world of winemaking after acquiring various vineyards and a 16th-century manor house in the Gomariz valley (Ribeiro del Avia, Ourense), which now houses a beautiful winery. His initial philosophy was to revive the traditional varieties of the area, with Treixadura at the forefront, and introduce the most modern techniques to produce wines that respect the historical character of the Galician region. In 2005, he launched the first vintage of Sanclodio, the flagship wine of the winery. A magnificent limited-production white wine made exclusively from the fruits of the six hectares of his own vineyards, located in the best area of the D.O. Ribeiro. The winery is located in the northwest of the Ourense province, where the valleys formed by the Miño, Avia, Arnoia, and Barbantiño rivers converge; Ribeiro is one of the oldest denominations of origin in Spain, officially recognized since 1932. Although the history of the production area dates back to Roman times, it was in the 12th century, thanks to the abbot of the San Clodio monastery that gives this white wine its name, that Ribeiro wine began to be recognized as one of the best white wines in the world.
