The volcanic slopes of Mount Etna, on the island of Sicily, are the starting point of the adventure of winemaker Andrea Franchetti. It was in the year 2000 that he decided to establish his Passopisciaro winery, restoring an ancient fortress in the homonymous village located in Castiglione di Sicilia.
The distinctive terraces on volcanic soil, a unique climate, and impeccable vineyard cultivation make this winery a unique project and the prelude to crafting some of the most exceptional wines in the area, where the reigning grape is the native nerello mascalese.
The Passopisciaro winery is located on the northern slope of Mount Etna, at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level, on volcanic soil rich in minerals, fertile, and with excellent drainage. It has a cultivated vineyard area of approximately 26 hectares, with an annual production of 70,000 bottles of wine.
The grape varieties used by the Sicilian winery for the production of its wines are nerello mascalese, chardonnay, petit verdot, and cesanese d'Affile. Their wines are classified under the D.O.P. Sicilia and I.G.P. Terre Siciliane Nerello Mascalese.
