Ornellaia is one of the leading wineries in Tuscany. Located on the coast, near the Tyrrhenian Sea, the estate was founded in 1981 by Marquis Lodovico Antinori.
Its 99-hectare vineyard, predominantly planted with cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, and petit verdot varieties, benefits from gentle sea breezes and the protection of nearby hills that shield it from the cold winter winds. The complexity of the soils where the vines grow, with alluvial, volcanic, and marine compositions, is ideal for the excellent adaptation of these French-origin varieties to the Italian terroir. All this results in wines with a distinct Bordeaux style and the masterful touch of Michel Rolland, the estate's consulting winemaker since 1991.
