Bodegas Más Que Vinos

Few wineries in the world can boast having three highly regarded winemakers on their team who are prominent figures in the international wine scene. One of them is Más que Vinos, a company founded in La Rioja in 1998 by winemakers Margarita Madrigal, Gonzalo Rodríguez, and Alexandra Schmedes. After several years of professional experience crafting wines in some of the best regions of Spain (Rioja and Ribera del Duero) and the world (France, Italy, Germany, and South Africa), Más que Vinos was established to advise various wineries across the national landscape.

In 1999, they embarked on a personal project in the municipality of Dosbarrios (Toledo), Gonzalo’s hometown. There, in the heart of the Mesa Alta de Ocaña—a region without wine prestige but abundant in old vineyards—they launched the initiative Bodegas Ercavio, with vineyards located in the areas of Dosbarrios and Cabañas de Yepes.

In a remarkably short time, the company created by Más que Vinos revitalized the winemaking scene of this Castilian-Manchegan region, producing wines with great character where no one had previously achieved such levels of quality. International critics placed their creations at the top of the Spanish wine quality pyramid, catching the attention of the international wine guru Robert Parker, who named La Plazuela by Más que Vinos the best wine of Castilla-La Mancha. Today, Más que Vinos continues to provide consulting services to wineries, although 95% of their efforts are focused on Bodegas Ercavio.
